silvestria:
Radio 4 on the BBC are currently dramatising three of Walter Scott’s novels with David Tennant as Walter Scott/narrator. The first was The Fair Maid of Perth, Waverley is coming up next week and I’m not sure what the third is. I enjoyed TFMoP - it’s not one I’ve read so I can’t tell how much had been changed - but it was enjoyable, and I’m really looking forward to Waverley because it’s such an awesome book.
And yes, David Tennant had his hot Scottish accent going, if we’re going to be shallow about this!
I really hope that this is the start of an awakening of interest in Scott in popular culture and that we might be due a TV adaptation soon. (It is Waverley’s bi-centenary next year so…) Getting a well known actor like David Tennant is a great sign.
If you’re not familiar with Scott I really recommend having a listen because it’s an entertaining way of getting into him.
Programmes are available for a week after broadcast and you don’t have to be in the UK to listen. :)
also! you can hear my Walter Scott professor on Radio 4’s “The Man Who Made Scotland”!
warning, although this may just be for myself, these are really making me miss Scotland.
